Gaslight dress

Dress: eShakti (fall 2011)
Camisole: Target (summer 2012)
Cardigan: Target (summer 2011)
Earrings: gift from mom (fall 2009)
Socks: Target (summer 2012)
Shoes: Bamboo, at ModCloth (winter 2012)

I hadn’t worn this in a while! I kept trying it on with different shirts underneath, and I thought perhaps the dress just didn’t fit anymore. Turns out I need to wear a thinner tank or cami, and it’s just fine. It does, however, take 15 minutes to put on because I can’t seem to hold the side in just the right position to zip it up easily. Side-zip dresses were not made for independent women living on their own.

Flower disc earrings

I don’t remember why I chose not to wear a necklace that day, but I did reach for these earrings because they match with pretty much most of my things.

Pink and cream oxfords

The return of the pink and cream oxfords! There’s really no excuse for the length of time between wearings. No excuse at all.

Knit top over shorts

Shirt: Target (summer 2012)
Shorts: Lane Bryant (summer 2010)
Earrings: Lane Bryant (summer 2012)
Shoes: Spring Step, at DSW (summer 2011)

(Guys, this post has been sitting in my drafts for 5 days…)

Shorts! I’ve been wearing skirts all summer long, but I got the idea of matching shorts with pretty tops and tried this combination for work on Friday. This is the first time I’m wearing shorts to work, and while I was a little weirded out at first, it evened out by lunchtime.

Cargo shorts may not have been the way to go though. I’m now on the lookout for a nicer pair, but that may have to wait until after vacation.

Silver and Gold dangly earrings

New earrings! Purchased in the same run as the necklaces. I didn’t have a necklace that worked well with the neckline on the shirt, so I went without.

Sandals

Yes, yes, I am wearing the same shoes as the day before. I know you’re not supposed to do that (same with bras) but these look so good with the shorts! They also helped the outfit feel a bit less casual than other shoes may have.

Maxi dress

Dress: Lane Bryant (summer 2012)
Sweater: Lane Bryant (summer 2012)
Necklace: Lane Bryant (summer 2012)
Shoes: Spring Step, at DSW (summer 2011)

The past few weeks have been hectic and rushed, as will the next few, I imagine. I’ve been to a family funeral and had to schedule emergency wig shopping—unrelated issues!—which I’ll post about soon. I’m also getting into vacation time, and while I’ll do my best to take outfit shots over the break, I’m not sure how good I’ll be at posting them.

I’ve broken my summer shopping ban, another thing I’d like to post about soon. The afternoon before driving up to Philadelphia for a funeral, I wanted to make sure I had appropriate clothing, and stopped over at Lane Bryant, mostly because it’s quite near to Matt’s house, and I know they’ll have clothes to fit me. (Fit me well, that’s another story!) Along with the summer sweater, I nabbed this great maxi dress. I’d wanted something similar for a while, and now I’ve got one!

Chunky necklace

I also gobbled up a couple necklaces, because I’m still learning how to accessorize. The orange in this looks so nice against the purple dress. It sure was clanky during the work day, though. I’m glad I didn’t wear this one to the funeral.

Tan sandals

I’ve had these shoes for a while, and find them more comfortable than I do other wedges. They are also surprising decent for walking the half-mile to work.

Shirt: Target (summer 2011)
Skirt: eShakti (fall 2011)
Lane Bryant (summer 2010)
Necklace: gift from parents (Christmas 2011)
Shoes: Dansko at The Walking Company (spring 2012)

I really should look at my own outfit photos more often! The bottom half is the same as it was last Friday. I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately, with my clothes no longer inspiring me. Getting dressed in the morning has now become a chore. Ugh.

Part of this, I think, is summer. I feel more creative with layers and tights and scarves. Trying to match simple tops with simple bottoms isn’t making me too happy. Perhaps an overhaul of my closet will help? I’m sure there are things hiding in my closet that I still have yet to unpack from my move this spring.

I tried several different colorful necklaces, but none of them felt right to me. I do like the length of this one with the neckline of the shirt, even the colors don’t pop.

Same shoes as last post, and you’ll see them again soon! I really do wear more than one pair of shoes, but these pop up again and again. Similar to my awesome pink and cream oxfords, I’ll grab these whenever but will soon throw more shoes back into the rotation.

Shirt: Treasure Cove Thrift Shop (spring 2012)
Tank top: Target (summer 2011)
Skirt: eShakti (fall 2011)
Earrings: Torrid (fall 2006)
Necklace: gift from Matt’s parents (Christmas 2011)
Shoes: Dansko at The Walking Company (spring 2012)

Holy balls, last week was hot as hell! (Or is that the other way around?) Besides hitting over 100 F, the derecho whipped through the Friday before, knocking out power in my neighborhood for over four days. Four days! No air conditioning, no refrigeration. While I love my little home, apartment living made it worse, with no way to open doors and windows to allow for proper air ventilation. I stayed at Matt’s house that week; his place was spared and remained one of few with power the entire time.

The weather is still hot and humid, but it’s finally dropped down to the low 90s instead. For this outfit last Friday, I took color and style inspiration from Sal, pairing the bright yellow and orange shirt with the hot pink tank top and earrings. The bright! The colors! My department supervisor said her 7-year-old daughter would love my colors; was that a compliment?

I really like the look of the knotted shirt over the longer tank top, but I’m not sure about the skirt. This may look cuter over a pair of fitted capris, or maybe my solid black maxi skirt. I’m physically more comfortable in circle or full skirts, but summer is giving a hard time with styling. I wonder if I can make some warm-weather pencil skirts instead?

I miss winter. The layers, they are calling to me.
