Holy balls, was it super hot on Monday? The temperature hit just about 90 F in our nation’s capital, and let me tell you, it was felt. I mean, I spent most of the day working in an air conditioned office, but a lady’s gotta go outside at some point, right?
I haven’t finished unpacking my apartment yet, so I basically grabbed the first summer dress I could pull out of the large cardboard moving box. This dress is super cute, even though I’m still not sure how I feel about dresses with empire waists.
I added the brown tee shirt under the dress, because I don’t like wearing sleeveless in the office, especially sleeveless with spaghetti straps! I almost wore my butterfly necklace, but thought it might be too much with the pattern in the dress.
Obviously, I wasn’t worried about clashing the dress pattern with these owl socks!

Holy crap, I look just like my mother in this photo! It’s weird, because while I do look a lot like my maternal grandmother, I mostly resemble my father. Most of the time, when someone mentions how much I look like my mom, my mother’s first reply is, “What? Are you serious?”
This outfit was not worn by my mother. I spent Saturday running errands with Matt, eating lunch at IKEA, and seeing Cabin in the Woods again. Twice in one weekend! I would have seen it again, if I hadn’t gotten some sort of food poisoning.
Stripes! I want more stripes. I grew up hearing that women, especially “stout” women, should not wear horizontal stripes. Ha! If I had my way, that’s all I would wear, every day this summer. I also like the yellow beads with the orange and white stripes. I almost wore those bold pink earrings again, but thought that would be too much.
The Danskos are my second favorite pair of shoes. They are good for standing and walking. I think my shoes will start being more functional and less “high-heeled prettiness” now that I’m walking more. But that just means it’s time to buy more shoes, yes?

I am seriously not as sullen as this photo makes me out to be! I am starting to feel like a normal human being again, even though my sinuses still refuse to completely clear up. I’ve been staying at the new apartment since Sunday, and while it’s not the perfect little city space yet, I’m settling in just fine.
One thing that I haven’t figured out yet is where to take my photos, hence the frazzled look in the above. There was a spot that seemed like a good idea, but alas, it was covered in bees. I used to just rest the camera on the railing of the porch, but I think a real tripod may be in my future.
Cabin in the Woods opens today! I debated seeing it at midnight, but knitting at home won out. I’ll be heading to the theater after work, and since movie theaters are usually very cold, I opted for pants. Pants! The black and white seemed like a good excuse to throw some color into the mix, and I went with these bold pink earrings and a coordinating tank top. I’ve loved that color combination since I first discovered Exclamation way back in junior high. Holy crap, that stuff is still for sale?
Yes, these shoes again. They are cute and comfortable, and now they feel even better with the addition of some arch-supporting orthotics. Moving into the new apartment drastically cuts down my commute to work, from nearly two hours of car-train-bus (each way!) to a measly 15 minutes of walking. More walking necessitates better foot-care products.

Holy crap, what is this? Another skirt… made by me! I am super pleased with this skirt. Super pleased. There are some things I would do differently next time, but I think of them as learning experiences. That’s what beginners have all the time, right? And if I love this skirt so much, my next one can only get better, amirite?
Because I am now such a sewing expert, I’ll soon be posting a little tutorial about making a circle skirt. Unfortunately, I did not take photos during my project, but the blogs I’ll reference will be able to help you much more than I would.
I could not find my little white skull earrings, which would have been perfect. However, I love pairing these with pink. The colors just go so well together.
Did you expect any other shoes with this outfit? The skirt just screams for these shoes! Last week I met up for adventures with a friend I hadn’t seen in months, and he said to me, “Oh! Those are those shoes you’re always wearing on your blog.”

For a day spent in doctors’ offices, I knew that comfort was a necessity. While I wasn’t really in the mood for wearing pants, I knew they’d work. Again, temperatures hit the mid-80s that day, and I didn’t have too many options not still packed away. This worked!
No accessories! I wasn’t sure if the doctor would be needing me to remove any clothing, so I decided to play it safe.
Good shoes for comfort as well. I really, really love my Danskos.

Here is a look I wasn’t ready to start sporting until summer. What the hell, temperatures? With it being March and all, I was completely unprepared for the warmth of the mid-80s. Most of my spring and summer clothing is also still packed away, and I rummaged around looking for something comfortable to wear.
Eh, the necklace really doesn’t match any of the colors of the outfit, but it’s too cute for me to care.
Again with the shoes. I knew I’d be walking a bit after work that day, and wanted to wear them as I knew how good they would be for walking.

You guys. I wanted a striped knit jersey maxi skirt, and I effing got a striped knit jersey maxi skirt. One I made. I made this skirt. It is not the most elaborate of garments, believe me, but it’s soft and comfortable and I freaking made it myself. I read the tutorials from threadbare and from Megan Nielsen before hitting Jo-ann and finding the right fabric. It took me just a few hours to pop this together. It felt like I was wearing pajamas all day.
The casual skirt and top made me feel a little underdressed for work. I paired the outfit with a loud necklace to seem a touch more appropriate for work.
Same with the shoes! I couldn’t just wear flats; too casual. Here are heels that haven’t been seen since last summer, and rightly so—they are summer shoes. But with the temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s in DC that week, they were definitely called for.

Saturday wear! This day, Matt and I were running errands, some of which included stops at clothing and shoe stores. I knew I wanted to wear something comfortable, yet easily removed. What better outfit than this for a day of trying on 87 things?
I came home with nothing, being the picky shopper I’ve recently become. But watch out! I spent a lot of that weekend sewing, and you’ll be seeing some of my first garments coming up.
I skipped the accessories, so I wouldn’t get anything caught on anything I was trying on. In the past, I’ve accidentally ripped a shirt or two in the dressing room. Luckily, I’ve learned my lesson.
Happy little skulls! These shoes aren’t the best for walking around, but they work. They are good for slipping on and off when trying on shoes at DSW.
