Black dots

Shirt: Kohl’s (fall 2014)
Skirt: Lane Bryant (spring 2009), altered by me
Shoes: J-41, at DSW (spring 2013)
Earrings: Amazon.com (spring 2015)

This outfit is nearly perfect. I really like this shirt—I bought it on sale at Kohl’s, and altered it to remove the elastic hem and shorten it a couple inches. It’s cute and comfortable, but seeing it here, I think I know the problem now: the neckline! Perhaps unbuttoning the henley or widening the neck would work better.

The skirt I altered is holding up quite nicely. I’m still experimenting with altering my clothing. I recently bought a fun new dress (also on sale!) even though I wasn’t 100% into it, because I knew that if I shortened the straps about an inch I would be in love. My sewing skills are still rudimentary, but have been giving me more confidence about finding, fixing, or making clothes that fit me.

Large hoops

I really wanted some large silver hoops, so I bought these large silver hoops on Amazon, and now I have the largest silver hoops ever.

Black sandals

I’ve had these shoes for about two years, but I think this is the first time they are appearing on the blog. They are comfortable, but I’ve now learned I cannot wear them on the walk from my new apartment to work. It took practically two weeks for the blisters to heal.

Hand-knit shirt over maxi skirt

Shirt: Hand-knit Roanoke, using Ella Rae Lace Merino (spring 2014)
Skirt: Target (spring 2014)
Shoes: Crocs (summer 2013)
Earrings: Optimystical Studios, at Geek Girl Con (summer 2012)
Necklace: Lane Bryant (summer 2010)

Newly acquired maxi skirt, newly finished knitting project! Last week was very warm and I was so happy to finally wear my Roanoke tee. It was a really quick knit but the blocking/drying time took three impatient days. If you are interested in the technical aspects, you can read much more about it over at our knitting blog.

I’m reluctantly pleased with my new maxi skirt. I’ve wanted a black with white or grey chevron striped maxi for a while and picked this up as an impulse purchase at Target while on a road trip the week before. There’s been a lot of muttering in the plus-size style community lately, about the long absence of the “women’s plus” department in physical Target stores. They told us change was coming and when it did, it was sparse and full of shapeless grey clothing. I think the grey color is called “manatee”. le sigh

Long necklace and short earrings

I want to reach for long necklaces when wearing a maxi skirt, and chose this one for the colors. They match smoothly against the bright deep hot pink of the knitted tee. I then picked the earrings to bring out the green in the necklace. Green and pink? Why not!

Crocs sandals

This was the first sockless day in the office! These Crocs are a little snug—I usually wear a US women’s 7 in Crocs, and both my purple flats and my classic clogs (I used these as house slippers) are size 7 and fit very well. So naturally I ordered these in size 7, but alas. Snug. I’d like to order a new pair in an 8 but don’t want these to go to waste. Does anyone need a pair of Crocs sandals?

Maxi dress and cardigan

Dress: Lane Bryant (summer 2012)
Cardigan: Target (spring 2013)
Earrings: Optimystical Studios, at Geek Girl Con (summer 2012)
Necklace: Lane Bryant (summer 2009)
Sandals: Crocs, via Amazon.com (spring 2013)

Wednesday is my usual work-from-home day, meaning I wear the most comfortable, casual clothes I have (often my pajamas), throw my laptop on the couch, and watch The West Wing while eating mac and cheese lunch. However, this particular Wednesday was frustrating as I spent much of the morning trying to make my internet work. I eventually gave up, put on something comfortable, yet still work appropriate, and walked down to the office.

Silver accessories

This maxi dress will get a lot of wear this summer, I imagine. I’m planning on mixing it up the best I can, with a variety of cardigans, scarves, and necklaces.

Crocs sandals

Last year I bought a pair of Crocs clogs to wear around the house, like slippers. My doctor strongly recommends against me going barefoot, even lounging around the house, and as someone who’s suffered through a few bouts of plantar fasciitis, I’m not going to argue. I never thought I would wear a pair of Crocs outside the house, though! These are actually pretty cute and definitely do not scream “Hey! Look at me! I’m Crocs!” I ordered the same size as my clogs, but these fit a little more snugly, and I may get another pair in a larger size.

Shirt over maxi skirt

Shirt: Target (summer 2010)
Skirt: Lane Bryant (spring 2009)
Shoes: Easy Spirit, at Macy’s (spring 2010)
Earrings: gift from mom (fall 2009)

I wore this outfit back in February, and I actually do prefer it with the cardigan. However, this week has been way to hot to wear to wear winter cardigans. I wanted to wear something simple and cool.

Floral earrings

Earrings from my mom. I’ve worn these so many times, they are really my go-to accessories. Every time I wear these, I get at least two compliments on them.

Strappy sandals

Summer sandals! Most of the time I do enjoy wearing socks in summer, but the black strappy shoes just work so well with this skirt. Usually, in super hot weather, my feet swell up, making shoes like these terribly uncomfortable. Oh, the irony, that I can’t wear strappy summer shoes in the middle of summer! Thankfully, Tuesday wasn’t too hot! I think it was in the high 70s, which made it the perfect day for me to wear these.
